Greer inputted the code into the door control panel and it opened up.  He quietly took a step into the darkened room as his eyes adjusted to the low light.  A single individual was seated silently on the floor in what looked to be a mediative pose.

  “Greetings, Greer.”

Despite not even facing him he had been able to guess Greer’s identity.  Greer had to admit that it was an impressive little trick, though he also considered that there would probably be very few people who would sneak silently into his quarters.

“Did you know about the tracking?” he asked.

“Not until much later.  It was shared amongst only a few individuals, the captain, first officer, security chief and the chief medical officer.”

“When you found out, could you have removed my traces from the logs?”

“It is possible I could have.  However, I consider that if Masters found out about your role that a meeting with you would only further your goals.”

He had to admit that that was an interest take on the situation.  “Yes, it seems it was.  The mission was still accomplished despite it.”

“You believe the captain would still have not got involved without meeting you?”

“Arranging to have the ambassador conceal so much from him was the key.  After that the ambassador’s credibility was gone.  He was already wanting to abandon this mission, even when he discovered my hand in the mix he was open to my ideas because he already shared them.”

“I see,” came an unconvinced reply.

“You’ll be glad to hear that their scanner was destroyed early in the war.  It is likely the technology only exists in the information we appropriated.”  That news did not elicit a response.  “I just came to thank you for the codes you gave me.  The program worked, save for the isotope tracking, but it still has concealed crucial elements of this operation.”

  “Your gratitude is not required.”

“Come now, I’d like to think you’d consider me your comrade,” he said sadden.

That did not solicit a response either.  He was about to leave when he remembered he had one question left.

“Before you said you had only used this program to mask your presence once before, was that time over Nthony C?”

“I have done what was required of me.  If there is anything else, operationally, that is required inform me now.  Otherwise, I wish to return to my mediation.”

He smiled.  That had struck a nerve given the response and he was able to form his own answer.  “Of course.  I always enjoy working with you.  I look forward to the next opportunity.”

“I am sure that if Section 31 requires that we cooperate then we shall do so.  Until then, goodbye Mr. Sloan.”

Luther Sloan simply smiled and reached for the door control.  “Farewell, Karak.”
